Alzheimer's Research
Alzheimer's research had made a promising development for the disease. The Alzheimer's Association had double its efforts to provide financial support for the investigators which are part of the grants.
The Association had given over twenty one million dollars to fund more than hundred research projects which came from six hundred thirty nine applicants of the grants.
The Alzheimer's Association along with the Lou Ruvo Brain Institute and the Cure Alzheimer's Fund had created the Tomorrows Leaders in Alzheimer's disease. An annual program which provides one hundred thousand dollars are given to outstanding new M.D or PhD investigators who made important contributions about Alzheimer's disease. The program is expected to give important matters that will help in combating the disease.
The research for Alzheimer's disease focuses on detecting the disease in onset stage, treating as well as preventing the Alzheimer's disease and the cure for this fatal brain disorder.
Along with the research, clinical trials for Alzheimer's disease were also key factor in better understanding of the disease. Clinical Studies Initiative were started in 2007. This program focus on the physician market research and physician awareness regarding the disease.
The Alzheimer's Association had also asked the FDA to allow those persons living with Alzheimer's an active role in regards to the approval and review of new medicines thus in November 2007, FDA had acknowledge the active role of patients with early stage of the disease by expanding the patient Consultant and Patient Representative Program.
Part of the research also is prevention and that goal leads to the study which may focus deeply on the cognitive health, risk factors for cognitive health problems and the ways how to prevent its decline.
Right now, the cure has not been found but research is ongoing and scientist are hoping that the cure is on its way soon.
